COMMUNICATION AND LEADERSHIP THROUGH FACEBOOK SOCIAL NETWORKING SYSTEM
- (a) Team Assignment
Team assignment refers to the process of undertaking an exercise or certain kind of work as a group. In an organization, the management may decide to allocate duties to the employees in the form of group-works hence the term team assignment. Facebook Social Networking System can be integrated into team assignments whereby members can create a group on the social networking site. Through this group, the members will easily manage to link up frequently and assess the progress made; in the instance that someone is stuck somewhere, the other members can come to his/her aid. Sharing of information via Facebook Social Networking System is very easy since it comes at no charge whatsoever. Team assignments can go a very long way towards helping an organization realize its targets since members of a group bear complimentary skills. As a result of these complimentary skills, one focuses on what he or she is good at; its also a fantastic forum for learning from one another. (Barrett D., 2011)
- (b) Performance Evaluation
The Facebook Social Networking System can also be incorporated into the process of communication and leadership by way of using it to carry out performance evaluation. Performance evaluation entails assessment of how employees of an organization fair in their work. There are three major levels of performance evaluation; first and foremost, the employees’ performance can be done by obtaining feedback from subordinate workers. In this, the subordinates give an account of how they view a certain employee who is higher in rank than them. (Baldoni J., 2003) Another level of performance evaluation is whereby information is obtained from peers of an employee; as such, colleagues of an employee in the place of work assess his or her performance. The other way of undertaking a performance evaluation is through assessment by supervisors; in this, the supervisors undertake a personal analysis of each and every employee. Information regarding employees during a performance evaluation can be easily obtained via Facebook Social Networking System whereby the employees can freely interact with others even if one is in a higher ranking than the other.
- (c) Setting of targets
In the process of communication and leadership, Facebook Social Networking System can also be effectively used to help an organization set targets. Respondents can easily avail their ideas through Facebook and thus helping an organization to set goals.
