Health informatics refers a discipline that specializes in handling all forms of data related to health. (Abdelhak, 2012)This field is unique in that it integrates data from health care, computer and information science. Informatics organizations are responsible for storing and retrieving medical and health informatics. Essentially, health informatics tools are aimed at enhancing the quality of service delivery. Furthermore, medical research relies heavily on health informatics. (Hebda, 2009)

The United States of America has different kinds of institutions which serve as informatics organizations. Whereas some of these organizations are regional, others are national. National informatics organizations handle data from all parts of the country. On the other hand, regional informatics organizations are limited to specific regions. American Health Information Management Association also facilitates for research in health care. Illinois Health Information Management Association

The Illinois Health Information Management Association (ILHIMA) is the premiere health informatics association in the State of Illinois. This association serves as an important member of the American Health Information Management Association. Through ILHIMA, numerous health care organizations in Illinois have benefited in terms of finances and non-monetary resources. The Illinois Health Information Management Association strongly emphasizes on the importance of information technology in health care. For instance, this informatics organization has initiated an excellent program for promoting the use of electronic health records in hospitals. Additionally, the Illinois Health Information Management Association is also involved in credentialing in nursing and medical schools in Illinois. (Box, 2010)

It has more than three thousand professional members within its ranks. This has helped the Michigan Health Information Management Association to grow rapidly as a leading center for health informatics. The Michigan HIMA also promotes the use of electronic health records in health care facilities. According to this informatics organization, information technology plays an integral part in any health care system. (Hebda, 2009)

This has lead to the establishment of modern information systems in most health care facilities in Michigan. Furthermore, the Michigan Health Information Management Association collaborates with most medical and nursing schools in Michigan. Based on this analysis, it is clear that the American Health Information Management Association is the most useful informatics organization. This is because it coordinates health care systems at both the national and regional levels. Additionally, AHIMA collaborates with other international health informatics organizations in order to enhance the management of health care systems. (Abdelhak, 2012)
